CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Elyan and Kiaphas accept the group's funds and head across the Hucrele Manor front yard. Exiting via the front gate and then walking due west past another field alongside the Hucrele warehouse, the pair soon find themselves treading along the north-south New Road that bisects Oakhurst. The General Provisioners storefront is easy to find, being well-known by all. The store sits on the eastern side of New Road, nigh across from the town well. Made of rough-hewn oak beams and bolstered on the outside by white plaster that seems to have yellowed with age and sun, the Provisioners is open but quiet at this hour.

As Elyan, Rogue, and Kiaphas enter through the shop's front double doors, a human man with a burlap apron calls out from behind his counter. "Aye, it's early enough. And lucky for you two that I--I say, is that Master Elyan, our most recent and beloved arrival? Come to spin yer yarns, have ye?" The man, known locally as Kermit Hastleson, casts a friendly look toward Elyan and Kiaphas.

Kiaphas

"Greetings, master Hastleson we need a few supplies for a journey, hardtack, dried fruit, beans, and whatever else u have for travel food. A small keg of ale, a hundred feet of rope, and a big wicker basket to carry it all would be good. We are setting of in search of more stories for Elyan here."

Kiaphas will move around the store gathering the items. When bartering comes up he will let Elyan take the lead offering support as needed.

"Master Hastleson, good morrow! Yes, we're here to outfit ourselves for adventure. I find that the greatest stories will not come to one. They must be wooed - won - with courage, humility and skill!"

"Now what might your role be in the grand tale, in the epic song? The supplier of vital equipment? The dependable purveyor of fine quality goods? Ah, I have it - the generous benefactor of adventuring heroes. What say you - what is your desire for fame, and thus, for fortune?"

Kermit nods with interest in sympathy. "I've much enjoyed yer tales, Master Bard. I can offer ye help in the form of a 5% discount on any of the aforementioned wares, save fer the food stores. We've had a short harvest season and a covey of recent thefts of some our town's winter stores has left me in short supply, with demand high. I'll need ye ter pay full price fer the food, with me apologies." The proprietor looks a bit embarrassed at this last.

The Oakhurst General Provisioner store offers the following 3.5 PHB items: anything from the Adventuring Gear, Clothing, or Food/Drink section. From the Mounts section: bits and bridles, feed, pack saddles, and saddlebags are available. No Special Substances or Tool or Skill Kit items are available. Elyan and Kiaphas get a 5% discount on in-stock non-food items (rope and the like). Items selected from the Food, Drink section of the PHB (pg 129) are available but must be paid for at full PHB price. The wicker basket is large enough in size to hold Rogue and costs 1 gp.

Kiaphas

We purchase rations for everyone, a small keg of ale (5 gallons) as per Grotzkoshter's request, 100ft of hempen rope, and the basket.

"Kords sinews, this is a load, a beast of burden might be in order, Elyan shall we see if we can get a mule"

[sblock]I outlined this on the OC thread, we purchase 11 days of rations, the rest, and hopefully a mule and saddlebags which would run 20.5 crowns total.[/sblock]

Elyan frowns as he considers Kiaphas' comment.

"Hmm. I think we might have a problem leaving a mule on the Plain. Who knows what predators might be around. Does the extra gear really weigh so much? If we were to buy one silk rope instead of two hempen ropes, we'd still have one hundred and fifty feet, and it would weigh a quarter as much for the same cost as two ropes and a mule! As for the food, well, that is a diminishing resource and thus a diminishing burden!"

As Kiaphas and Elyan stand quietly discussing whether a mule will be needed, Kermit goes bustling about his shop and soon has a pile of the aforementioned requested gear neatly stacked in the large wicker basket. Clearing his throat, Kermit calls out, "Nine crown an' three marks. When yer ready, o' course. Les' there were sommat else, then?"

Elyan hears Rogue licking his chops and reaches down to ruffle the dog's ears. Rogue whines and slaps his tail against Elyan's calf.

"Oh, how remiss of me. My furry friend here would hardly forgive me if I didn't buy some food for him. Please add a couple of fair-sized chunks of dried meat to the pile, if you would be so kind. Then that will be the lot, thank you."

Turning to Kiaphas, he says, "I could always send him to hunt, but it would be better not to delay unnecessarily."

"Two hunks of meat. Certainly." Kermit shuffles into the back room and returns in a few moments with two individual burlap sacks dipped in wax for preservation. Putting both sacks on the counter, the proprietor says, "Half pound each, 6 marks fer the meat...brings it to 9 crowns an' 9 marks even, it does."

After pushing the laden wicker basket toward Kiaphas and Elyan, Kermit comes out from behind his counter and holds the door open for the pair. Watching the priest and the goodly bard saunter off bearing their new belongings, the proprietor has a funny look of interest on his face but says naught other than, "Good sun to you both, and good speed."

An hour before the sun hits its mid-day peak, Kiaphas and Elyan spot Korgrave, Karl, and Grotz waiting outside of town at the appointed meeting spot near a large half-uncovered gray rock and a dead oak tree.
