CB's The Sunless Citadel v3.5

Kiaphas

Kiaphas searches around the bed, under the mattress, perhaps young Sharwyn has left a diary or something of the sort under near where she rests. If he finds nothing of interest he will move into the boy's room.

After looking thru both rooms he will confer with Karl on what he has found then inform Elyan of their results to see if he has any insights.

Lacking any more clues the Ashen plain and the likely goblin warrens there seem like our best starting point. Kiaphas will press for a quick exit to avoid another confrontation like the night before.

In searching Sharwyn's room, Kiaphas finds nothing of note, save perhaps the shelf of bookcases that Karl is already perusing. The small table beside Sharwyn's bed obviously held ink some goose quills at one time, for inside the lone drawer are ink smudges and a large hardened spill along with used up quill nibs. The drawer has the look of being thoroughly cleaned out, as if its owner didn't intend to return. Likewise, there is but one dress hanging in the rickety wardrobe, a silk and lace gown of fine craftsmanship that seems sized to fit a fully grown woman slender of waist and robust of hips. On the wardrobe floor underneath the gown is a pair of ivory slippers, hardly worn by the look of them.

Searching Talgen's room, it likewise seems completely vacated. No books adorn Talgen's room and the chest at the foot of his bed and his wardrobe are both empty.

With Rogue to guide him, Elyan traces the objects in Talgen's room with fingertips. Having searched Talgen's room thoroughly and finding nothing of interest save perhaps the lack of personal effects that one would normally find in an occupied room, Elyan walks out of Talgen's room back into the upper hall of the house.

Karl puts the letters to Sharwyn from Sir Braford back in the thick volume of childrens' nursery rhymes, but not before scanning the papers again a second time to make sure he hasn't missed anything. Having committed the bulk of the letters' contents to memory, Karl replaces the tome back on the bookshelf and joins Elyan and Rogue in the hall. The pair is soon met by Kiaphas who nods his assent to leave.

With Gretchen guiding them, Elyan, Karl, and Kiaphas leave the house via the kicthen door. Gretchen, a worried look etched in the deep lines of her middle-aged face, presses a linen flour sack into Kiaphas's hands. "It's full of the morning's rolls, and a jar of this summer's saskatoon berry jam. Please, take it for your walk this morning...and, please, find our missing kinsmen. Mistress Hucrele may not be overly concerned, but them two're close to me heart and are sorely missed." The woman's face and eyes betray a deep-seeded concern and tired worry. With a careful look cast over her should back inside the kitchen, Gretchen closes the kitchen door but whispers an old folk blessing as she does. "By wing and hoof, I bid you speed and luck."

Grotz, Kiaphas, Korgrave, Karl, and Elyan find themselves outside in the bright morning sun. This early in the day, neither the manor house nor the old oak tree offer any shade across the home's back area. Just as it seemed this morning, the day is cloudless and already grows hot, the air thick with sun motes and feeding gnats.

Karl looks around at the day, basking in the sunlight for a moment. The house was nice, but he could begin to understand why the younguns would want to get free of it, even if only for a little while. Still, it's a dangerous world. . . especially if you fancy yourself powerful enough to face it. Who knows where the children went or why?

"Now what?"

Elyan, his dirty blonde hair reflecting sun motes in the hot morning light, appears thoughtful. "A ravine may mean a climb down. I haven't a length of rope, have you? And with five of us, we may find ourselves wishing for more than just one stretch of rope. A trip to the Oakhurst General Provisioners might alleviate this shortcoming. I do think it best to search the ravine first; despite her apparent conviction that the pair is lost in the woods, I think it actually more likely that they headed west rather than east or north."

Grotzkoshter

Agreed
Grotzkoshter replies to Elyan
I suggest we three wait in the outskirts of town, on the way to the plain, And you two
He nods towards Kiphas and Elyan
You'll buy the supplies from the general store
We'll go around the buildings and the Eucalyptus grove and pass through the watermelon's field to the Ashen plain, walking half a kilometer south along an old dirt path you'll see a large rock and a dead Oak tree, we'll be there ...

He turns to leave and stops
… one more thing, do it quickly, it's quite hot inside this armor so don't let me wait to long
With that Grotz motions Karl and Korgrave to follow him

"One more thing - we'll need a large wicker basket - so that we can let Rogue down to the base of the ravine."

"Oh, and does someone have the money to pay for these provisions? I'm afraid I'm down to my last couple of silver bits. I would think that three ropes and a basket would suffice. And while we're at it, does everyone have supplies? We'll need to buy some trail rations, otherwise. I have enough for two days."

When people have indicated what equipment they need, and how to pay for it, Elyan will go with Kiaphas to the store to make the purchases. He will be extremely charming to the storekeeper - who knows, they may get a discount!

Diplomacy +6

I don't oft buy provisssssionssssss, prefering to live off the land. But, I have thisssss to contribute towardsssss a group fund. He offers 10 crowns to Elyan.

Karl scrounges through his pouch, reluctant to part with what little remains in there.

"I do have rope, a goodly length. And another ten feet worth of chain. And a few days worth of food . . ."

Eventually he hands over three crowns into the group coffer, but it looks physically painful to him.

[sblock=ooc]50' rope, 10' chain, 4 days rations[/sblock]
