Jack Chick Passes Away

The controversial figure Jack Chick, who published a range of comic books known popularly as "Chick tracts", which attacked a number of activities including Dungeons & Dragons, has passed away. His Dark Dungeons tract was released in 1984 and is often linked to the 1980s paranoia about Satanism and other elements suggested to be part of tabletop roleplaying games. A movie version of that particular tract was also made by JR Ralls.

Preview VOLO'S GUIDE TO MONSTERS

Polygon has scored a look at the upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters from WotC - six full pages, in fact, which give a very clear idea of what we can expect from the book when it arrived next month! From the looks of their article, it seems that WotC is using this as a testbed for the way they handle future sourcebooks. Polygon confirms the overall product description - 96 new (to 5E) monsters, tons of rules for monster PCs (goblins, orcs, firbolgs), and a buch of deep dives into some iconic monsters. Bound by the Cards: The Tarot Encounter Deck

New for EN5ider patrons! If you enjoyed last week's Cardcaster class, you'll find this additional use for a tarot deck useful. Josh Gentry described how to use a tarot deck to generate random encounters in your 5E game. Indeed, you could have your cardcaster draw the cards! The biggest 5e-compatible magazine on the web wants writers! Halloween is nearly here, but the EN World EN5ider team is already preparing for the holidays with our "Gift Giving" seasonal theme. Pitches should be no more than 2 paragraphs and must give a basic overview of your proposed article and why it is a good fit for EN World EN5ider, and how the article relates to the theme. Morrus Talks WOIN On Radio

I was interviewed on the Shane Plays radio show. You can find an extended (40 minute) version of the segment where I talk about WOIN; that 40 minutes is just part of the epic two-hour interview I ended up doing, which covered EN World, the ENnies, and a wide range of topics. It was great fun to do. I'm not sure when the other segments get released, but keep an eye on Shane Plays and I'm sure they'll turn up!

Fire Giant Dreadnoughts in VOLO's GUIDE TO MONSTERS

WotC posted this image a couple of days ago, along with a brief note that that Volo's Guide to Monsters has "quite an extensive entry" on Fire Giant Dreadnoughts. Spiky! Also check out yesterday's Giant Lore preview, and the preface - there's a bit of a giant-based focus o the previews, which is likely because Storm King's Thunder is the current storyline. The book hits stores on November 15th (November 4th in preferred stores).

New "Lore On Giants" Preview from Volo's Guide to Monsters

There's a new preview of the upcoming Volo's Guide to Monsters available from WotC. This one-page preview contains traits, ideals, bonds, and flaws for NPC giants. This joins the previous preview, which features the book's preface from Volo. The 224-page hardcover book lists stores on November 15th (and, presumably, preferred stores 11 days earlier on November 4th).

Monsters and Heroes of the Realms: a Dungeons & Dragons Coloring Book

This came out back towards the end of September. It's a 96-page paperback book filled with illustrations and artwork from the official D&D books, with 16 pages of full-color inspirations. WotC has posted a couple of quick looks inside - a map and the beholder. It seems to me like it would be a decent Christmas gift for a kid (though I understand many adults enjoy colouring in, too!) You may be able to find it in your friendly local game store, or you can grab it from Amazon (US, UK; you can probably find the rest!)

Open Call! Can You Write Sci-Fi Adventures?

EONS Magazine, the official magazine of the What's OLD is NEW (WOIN) roleplaying game system, needs sci-fi writers! More specifically, we're looking for reliable writers to produce a range of 7,000-word adventures using the WOIN system (specifically, the recently released N.E.W. Science Fiction Roleplaying Game). You will need to be familiar with the game system. The pay rate is $0.03 per word.
