Welcome back to our weekly look at tabletop roleplaying game, and accessories, crowdfunding roundup! Each week we’ll be looking at a few campaigns currently running that have caught our eye as well as occasionally speaking to some of the creators about their campaigns, or looking at some of the ‘behind the scenes’ business aspects of putting together, launching, operating and then delivering a crowdfunded project. If you have anything you’d like us to cover, or questions about anything we talk about, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or contact me directly.
Slightly "short" week, due to me not getting back from Coast Con until late Monday (and, yes, failing to pre-load my Picks the week before). There's been plenty to be excited about, as the RPG equivalent of a Steam Sale got underway thanks to GM's Day. In fact, due to many publishers making it a week-long celebration, you still have time to get in on some great deals... but only just.
Modiphius Entertainment have just released the first issue of their new inhouse digital magazine, Modiphia. The quarterly magazine features articles on the companies growing range of games – including Achtung! Cthulhu, Mutant Chronicles and Star Trek – as well what’s coming later this year.
New on EN5ider, the 5th Edition patreon! The world is filled with deep, dark places that few dare to venture into: prehistoric caverns, ancient tombs, and foreboding dungeons. All of these places have one thing in common: their lack of light. These are places where the sun holds no sway, and the evil creatures that dwell within them hunt and thrive in total darkness. Only a fool would venture into such a place without a light source. Sometimes, even a simple torch or iron lantern isn’t enough to pierce the darkness of such places, which is where this article comes in. “Don’t Lose the Light” provides players and Game Masters alike with five custom light source items that can be purchased, found, or collected as treasure.
Pelgrane Press have announced a new Robin Laws project, The Yellow King Roleplaying Game, which will be coming to Kickstarter later in the year for a 2018 release. Using the GUMSHOE system the game "takes you on a brain-bedning spiral through multiple selves and timelines. You can read the full press release below...

Critical Role's Matt Mercer posted about behaviour within the Critical Role fanbase. It very much reflects conversations we've had here on EN World about the RPG fanbase as a whole, and the D&D fanbase specifically. Whether you're talking about Critical Role specifically, or your thoughts about any tabletop gaming rule or product, I'm sure you understand what Matt is talking about.

It might surprise some that some of the most revolutionary advice for game masters would be tucked into a supplement for Champions back in 1988. Aaron Allston's Strike Force pushed a lot of young game masters into new directions with just a few pages of his talking about what he did in his home games. In music there's a concept where an album has an influence on the stream of music that far outstrips its commercial impact. An album like The Velvet Underground & Nico is a commercial failure, with low sales and songs that challenged the existing radio airplay establishment, however it is one of those albums that caused listeners to go out and want to make their own music.
Back at Gen Con 2015 Pinnacle Entertainment announced they had licensed three comic book properties to adapt into Savage Worlds roleplaying games. Flash Gordon, Fear Agent and The Goon. The good news is that all three are nearing completion, with Shane Hensley posting a photo of the proofs earlier followed by front cover images for both The Goon and Fear Agent.
Tales From the Yawning Portal is about a month away, which means the previews are starting to appear across the internet. First up is the first three pages of the book - the introduction, which summarises the included adventures (The Sunless Citadel, The Forge of Fury, The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, White Plume Mountain, Dead in That, Against the Giants, and Tomb of Horrors) with basic details about The Yawning Portal itself. Enjoy!
